Former Kingston Staffer to Run for #GA01

A former staffer for Republican Rep. Jack Kingston will announce on Wednesday that he’s running for his former boss’ seat.

David Schwarz, who served as a senior staffer for Kingston before moving to the consulting firm Pier Strategies, will become the third Republican to enter the 1st District race.

The seat will be open in 2014, after Kingston announced he was running for the Peach State’s open Senate seat.

The two other Republicans who have already entered the race are state Sen. Buddy Carter and businessman Darwin Carter, who worked in President Ronald Reagan’s administration in the 1980s.

Peach Pundit, a Georgia political blog, was the first to report the news.

The 1st District is located in the southeast corner of the state and includes the entire city of Savannah, which was added to the district in the 2010 redistricting cycle.

Although the district has become slightly more Democratic with the addition of Savannah, it is still a safe Republican seat.
