Two law firms that represent the Mississippi Public Employees’ Retirement System have been ordered to produce a list of contributions from their firms and employees to the Democratic Attorneys General Association, a Section 527 organization.

The judge is looking at ‘pay to play’ allegations brought by  the law firm of Fenwick & West, who are lawyers for defendant Diamond Foods in a securities class action case. Their attorneys point to contributions from plaintiff’s law firms of Chitwood Harley Harnes and Lieff Cabraser Heiman and Bernstein to Democratic Attorney General Jim Hood’s campaigns.

Political MoneyLine’s databases of contributions of $2,500 or more to Section 527 organizations show the Chitwood Harley Harnes law firm gave $30,000 on Feb. 25, 2011, to the Democratic Attorneys General Association.

The Lief Cabraser Heiman and Bernstein law firm gave $10,000 to DAGA on Aug. 1, 2011; $10,000 to DAGA on July 10, 2012; and $5,000 to DAWA on Nov. 29, 2012. The firm also gave $10,000 on Nov. 3, 2011, to the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC).

Lief Cabraser Heiman and Bernstein attorney Elizabeth J. Cabraser gave $2,500 to Emerge America on Dec. 31, 2012, and $15,000 to the California Voter Registration-State Account on Dec. 31, 2001.
