Today is Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day, so everyone is bringing their very special mini-me to the office, including members of Congress.

Rep. Adam B. Schiff, D-Calif., brought his 10-year-old son, Eli, to the office with him. Pretty soon Schiff’s Twitter feed was taken over by the hashtag #ElisExcellentAdventure.

HOH caught up with the congressman and Eli Schiff to get a rundown on their day.

“I’m having a blast. It’s great to have my boy with me,” Schiff told HOH.

As for whether Eli is the mind behind Schiff’s Thursday tweets, the congressman says it’s actually his staff ghost-tweeting for the boy.

“I think it would be a little risky to give him full control, but he is a solid consultant/contributor on the Twitter feed,” Schiff said.

According to the congressman, father and son have had a pretty busy day.

“He came with me to C-SPAN, to do an interview on C-SPAN, then we had lunch with one of my staff, a military fellow, who’s an Apache helicopter pilot, and Eli’s really interested in military aircraft, so [Eli] got to  hear all about it,” Schiff said. “Plus, it’s Army Day in the Rayburn [Building] foyer, so [Eli] got to try on a parachute and a helmet and night-vision goggles.”

This wasn’t Eli Schiff’s first visit to his dad’s office.

Schiff the younger tells HOH: “I’ve been here before.” Still Thursday was “a little different” from his normal visits, because he “had to do some work.”

“Work?” we asked. “What kind of work?”

“Uh, paper-shredding basically, highlighting things, putting them in order,” he explained. “It’s kind of fun.”

But, Eli said, he visits his dad’s office less for the paper shuffling and more for the “joking around and playing pranks.”

Hold up. Pranks, you say? What kind of pranks?

“Um, [pregnant pause].” Eli is clearly struggling to find the words to explain the epic nature of his pranks to an adult. He gives up. “I can’t really explain it,” he tells us.

Instead, Eli tells us all about Army Day and looking at the world looked through night-vision goggles (“Everything was green”). He then went on to wow us with his vast knowledge of military airplanes. (Seriously. The kid knows his stuff.) Oh, and even though having a dad who is also a congressman is a pretty great feeling, Eli isn’t following the elder Schiff into public office. The 10-year-old wants to be a pilot.
