Mae Stevens has been hired as a senior legislative assistant for Rep. Matt Cartwright, D-Pa. Stevens was a legislative assistant for former Rep. Russ Carnahan, D-Mo. She also has worked as a clean energy policy adviser at Third Way, a consultant for the Environmental Defense Fund, a policy analyst for Greenpeace, and a policy and program coordinator at Physicians for Social Responsibility.

Shelby Boxenbaum has been hired as a legislative correspondent for Rep. Matt Cartwright, D-Pa. She was a regional research analyst for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and was a public policy fellow at Trimpa Group. Her previous experience includes positions as a law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, an associate at Winston & Strawn in New York and a law clerk for the ACLU of Colorado.

Bill Christian has been hired as director of government affairs at Citizens Against Government Waste. Christian was a partner at Austin Copelin & Reyes. He also worked as chief of staff for the U.S. Selective Service System under President George W. Bush and was assistant vice chancellor for federal relations for the University of Texas System. He served on Capitol Hill for several years, including a stint as chief of staff to Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas, and in the office of Sen. Phil Gramm, R-Texas. He also worked as a speechwriter for the secretary of the Navy, and he retired from the Marine Corps Reserve in 2011 after more than two decades as a commissioned officer.

Linda A. Ulrich has been appointed vice president of federal relations at the Wine Institute. She was director of oversight for the House Administration Committee. She also has served as deputy chief of staff to Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Calif., and was director of the California governor’s office in Washington, D.C., during the term of Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Roy C. Bierwirth has been hired as a member of The SPECTRUM Group. He also has worked as vice president of defense and government at Spartan Motors Inc. He retired from the Army in 2006 as a colonel, after working on the Joint Staff and in the Army’s congressional liaison office. He was the commander of the Army’s recruiting battalion in Indianapolis and the deputy commander of the Army’s 5th Recruiting Brigade. He was senior Army adviser to the Michigan Army National Guard.

Michael Atwood Mason has been appointed director of the Smithsonian’s Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. Mason is assistant director for exhibitions at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. He has worked at the museum as assistant director for exhibitions and chief of exhibit development and project management. He also has worked at the Anacostia Community Museum as an exhibit developer.

Ron Kaufman has joined the national government affairs practice at law and lobbying firm McKenna, Long & Aldridge as a senior strategic adviser. Kaufman is the chairman of the executive committee at lobbying firm Dutko Worldwide. He worked as a senior adviser to Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign. He also served as the deputy assistant to the president for political affairs under President George Bush.

Caroline Roth has been hired as a senior account executive at Prism Public Affairs, a communications firm. Roth was a deputy press secretary for Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Ill. She previously was a staff writer for National Journal, a government affairs clerk at lobbying firm BGR Group and a communications specialist for the DuPage County Board in Illinois.

Robert Schwartz has been hired as an account executive at Prism Public Affairs. Schwartz was the vice president and social media manager at The Leslie F. Schwartz Pancreatic Cancer Research Foundation. He also has worked as an account executive at production company D S Simon Productions.

David J. Kappos has been elected as a member of the board of directors at the partnership for Public Service. Kappos is a partner at Cravath, Swaine & Moore. He has served as undersecretary of Commerce and director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office under President Barack Obama. He also has worked as vice president and assistant general counsel for intellectual property at IBM.
