K Street Files: Ex-Sen. Kyl Joins Covington & Burling

Former Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., will join the global public policy and government affairs practice at Covington & Burling, the firm announced Wednesday.

The firm recently hired Dan Bryant, former senior vice president of global public policy and government affairs at PepsiCo, to oversee an expansion of its public policy practice in Washington and Brussels.

“Senator Kyl’s deep knowledge and extraordinary legislative skills from his years as a senior leader in Congress make him ideally suited to help us built on the many strengths of our public policy and government affairs practice,” said Timothy Hester, chair of Covington’s management committee.

Kyl, who was Senate minority whip in the 112th Congress, is expected to work out of the firm’s Washington, D.C., office and advise companies on issues including taxes, health care, defense, national security and intellectual property matters. He spent 26 years in the House and Senate, including a stint as top Republican on the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Taxation and IRS Oversight. He also was ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism.
