‘Pascrell’ Headed to NFL Hall of Fame?

New Jersey residents must have been relatively surprised to read Sunday that one of their congressmen was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“NFL Hall of Fame Taps Pascrell, Snubs Strahan,” the front page of the Bergen Record trumpeted.

This was a bit of a shock to Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr., D-N.J.

“The Record is a fantastic newspaper and does a great job covering our region, which is why I was surprised to get inducted to the Football Hall of Fame,” Pascrell told HOH.

The paper, obviously, meant to refer to the induction of Bill Parcells, head coach to five football franchises including the New York Giants and New York Jets, both of which play in New Jersey. Parcells was also born in Jersey.

For his part, Pascrell is no sports slouch, although he’s unlikely to head to Canton, Ohio, for an induction ceremony anytime soon. As a longtime fixture at the CQ Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game, perhaps Pascrell can hold onto hope that he’ll appear someday in the CQ Roll Call Baseball Hall of Fame.
