Matt House has been hired as press secretary for the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. House was director of rapid response and communications adviser to the Massachusetts Democratic Party. He also has served as press secretary to Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y. He worked as deputy press secretary for New Hampshire for Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s 2008 presidential campaign.

Heath Shuler has been hired as senior vice president of federal affairs for Duke Energy. Shuler is a Democratic representative from North Carolina. He was a quarterback for the Washington Redskins. He also played quarterback for the New Orleans Saints and the Oakland Raiders.

Michael Beland has been hired as a senior manager in the federal government and commercial sectors at Deloitte, a lobbying and professional services firm. Beland was the chief of staff for the office of infrastructure protection at the Homeland Security Department. He has worked as staff director and counsel for the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation Security and Infrastructure Protection.

Richard Lukas has been named director of federal grants and program development at The Trust for Public Land. Lukas was the director of government relations at the National Building Museum. He has worked as a senior outreach associate at the American Planning Association.

Deborah “Deb” Alderson has been promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer at government information technology company SRA International. Alderson was the executive vice president of strategic development. She has worked as group president of the defense solutions group at defense technology company SAIC.

Timothy “Tim” Atkin has been promoted to chief administrative officer and chief of staff at SRA International. Atkin was head of the company’s global health business. He also has worked at SRA International as manager of the civil government business. He worked as chief of staff to the deputy secretary at the Labor Department.

Meredith F. Bergeson has been hired as an associate at Jackson Lewis law firm. Bergeson was an intern in the employment law litigation section in Virginia’s office of the attorney general. She also worked as an intern at the Virginia Employment Commission.

Don Green has been hired as vice president at the Business Roundtable. He was legislative director for Sen. Olympia J. Snowe, R-Maine. He also worked as deputy chief of staff and legislative director to Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla. He was senior policy adviser, legislative director and subcommittee staff director to former Rep. John Linder, R-Ga.

The following people have been hired or promoted at the American Insurance Association (AIA):

Adam Kerns has been hired as assistant general counsel. Kerns was director of finance in the government and industry affairs department at Farmers Group.

Steve Simchak has been hired as director of international affairs. Simchak was program director of the Coalition of Service Industries. He also has served as a legislative assistant for Rep. J. Randy Forbes, R-Va. and as a legislative intern to Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Pa. He was an economic policy intern for the National Economic Council at the White House under President George W. Bush.

Phillip Carson has been promoted to associate general counsel and director of financial regulatory policy. He was assistant general counsel. He also has worked as a financial auditor at Deloitte and as a tax consultant at Arthur Andersen.

Ken Stoller has been promoted to assistant general counsel. He was senior counsel. Stoller also has served as an analyst-editor in AIA’s legislative reporting service.
