Arbitrary List of Top 10 Weather Movies We Could Remember
Because almost everyone in the Northeast Corridor is home from work today or, um, working from home today, HOH is cordially inviting you to a weather movie marathon.
Since we all have a limited amount of time before the power goes out for the rest of the week, you should probably get on this as soon as possible.

10. “Twister” (1996)
This is a terrible actual movie but a great weather movie.
It is the tale of Bill and Jo Harding (Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt), an unhappily married, nearly divorced storm-chasing duo. They chase tornadoes because of science.
9. “Swiss Family Robinson” (1960)
This is the story of a family who, because of a bad storm and nasty pirates, gets shipwrecked on an island. They make the best of it, building the greatest tree house of all time and playing music on a big organ.

8. “The Grey” (2011)
Liam Neeson is a seriously hardcore outdoorsman whose plane crashes in Alaska in the midst of a terrible storm. Some wolves get hungry when they see the survivors traipsing around the Last Frontier, and Neeson decides to kick some serious wolf butt.
7. “Moonrise Kingdom” (2012)
Two misfit kids in love run away from home as a hurricane approaches their New England island. Wes Anderson whimsically directs Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward and the adults trying to track them down: Edward Norton, Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton.
6. “Beasts of the Southern Wild” (2012)
Six-year-old Hushpuppy (Quvenzhané Wallis) and her southern Louisiana community get pummeled by a hurricane. The people at the Sundance film festival, which takes place far from Louisiana, and the Northeast for that matter, loved it.

5. “Groundhog Day” (1993)
Bill Murray plays grumpy weatherman Phil, who has to relive Groundhog Day over and over again amid a snowstorm in Punxsutawney, Pa. Anyone who works in or around Congress knows the feeling.
4. “Singing in the Rain” (1952)
Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor sing and dance in the rain as they try to make the transition from the silent screen to the talkies. Best use of sprinkler systems to emulate rain ever.
3. “The Perfect Storm” (2000)
The film adaptation of Sebastian Junger’s book stars bromancers George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg as fishermen caught in a storm that all the weather people are comparing to Frankenstorm. Lesson to fishermen: hoist anchor and come ashore now.

2. “The Day After Tomorrow” (2004)
Jake Gyllenhaal, Emmy Rossum, Dennis Quaid and Sela Ward star in this climate-change movie about a super storm system that plunges the planet into a new ice age. With Hurricane Sandy starting tropical and going snow-dumper, the movie hits a little close to home.

1. “Wizard of Oz” (1939)
Best weather movie of all time. A twister lifts Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland), house and all, and whisks her over the rainbow from black and white into a world of color, little people and flying monkeys. Seriously, does it get any better? No.
