A super PAC led by Jonathan Soros, the son of liberal financier George Soros, today announced the eight lawmakers it will target via direct mail, phone contact and Internet advertising.

The New York Times has described the group, Friends of Democracy, as “The Super PAC That Aims to End Super PACs.” Earlier this year, the Times reported that the group was targeting “10 to 15 House lawmakers whose records and public statements have not been supportive of what Mr. Soros calls a system of ‘citizen-led’ elections.”

Friends of Democracy will spend about $200,000 in each district. All targeted incumbents are Republicans. The districts and incumbents are:

  • California’s 7th: Rep. Dan Lungren
  • California’s 36th: Rep. Mary Bono Mack
  • Florida’s 26th: Rep. David Rivera
  • New Hampshire’s 2nd: Rep. Charles Bass
  • New York’s 18th: Rep. Nan Hayworth
  • New York’s 24th: Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle
  • Ohio’s 16th: Rep. Jim Renacci
  • Texas’ 23: Rep. Francisco “Quico” Canseco

In other super PAC political advertising news out this morning, House Majority PAC, a super PAC supporting House Democratic candidates, announced it was making $1.2 million in additional television ad buys.

The districts targeted are:

  • Arizona’s 2nd: in support of Rep. Ron Barber, who is challenged by retired Air Force Col. Martha McSally (R).
  • Florida’s 10th: in support of retired Orlando Police Chief Val Demings, who is challenging Rep. Dan Webster (R). This buy is in conjunction with the Service Employees International Union.
  • Illinois’ 17th: in support of East Moline Alderwoman Cheri Bustos (D), who is challenging Rep. Bobby Schilling (R).
  • Iowa’s 1st: in support of Rep. Bruce Braley (D), who is being challenged by attorney Ben Lange (R).
  • Michigan’s 1st:  in support of former state Rep. Gary McDowell (D), who is challenging Rep. Dan Benishek (R).
  • Minnesota’s 8th: in support of former Rep. Rick Nolan (D), who is challenging Rep. Chip Cravaack (R). This buy is in conjunction with the SEIU.
