Pennsylvania: Mark Critz Airs First Spot Against Keith Rothfus

Rep. Mark Critz (D) hit the airwaves for the first time today in his heavily targeted race to fend off a challenge from attorney Keith Rothfus (R).

The spot focuses on Critz’ conservative credentials, highlighting his opposition to President Barack Obama’s energy policies.

“Seven hundred coal jobs depended on building an air shaft at the Cumberland Mine, but we had to fight President Obama’s EPA to get it built,” Critz says in the 30-second spot. “I approved this message because I’m pro-life, pro-gun and I’ll fight anyone who stands in the way of Pennsylvania jobs.”

Critz’s buy is for $70,000, his aide confirmed, in a district that’s already been bombarded with campaign advertisements for this race.

The National Republican Congressional Committee aired its first spot targeting Critz back in May. In recent weeks, the NRCC returned to the district’s airwaves, along with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and House Majority PAC, a Democratic Super PAC.

Rothfus started airing his own campaign spots in mid-August.

Roll Call rates this race as a Tossup.
