President Barack Obama threw House Democrats a bone today by penning a fundraising pitch for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

In a 53-word email titled “This matters,” Obama made the pitch to donate to the House Democrats’ campaign arm ahead of the quarterly reporting deadline on June 30.

“If you’re with me, then I need you right now,” Obama wrote. “We’re just days away from the mid-year fundraising deadline — this is the biggest test yet of our commitment to win in 2012. We can’t fall short on this one.”

The president has a somewhat frosty relationship with Congress this cycle. Earlier this year, the president alerted both House and Senate Democrats that he’s not going to assist them financially while he seeks re-election. The last time the president held a major fundraiser for House Democrats was March 2011, when he brought in $1 million for the DCCC at a Boston event.

The president’s appeal also comes as several political experts argued this month that Democrats have almost no chance of taking back the House this cycle. In their defense, the DCCC released a memo, “Math to the Majority,” and cited polling that shows Democrats ahead of Republicans by 4 points on the generic ballot.
