“The Weizel” wants in on all the election action.

Comedian Pauly Shore, whose ’90s-era stoner alter ego was lounging around MTV-supplied beach houses long before Snooki could even reach the top of a barstool, is in town this week preparing for a politically themed special scheduled to air on Showtime later this fall.

The Los Angeles native told HOH that during his last swing through the District, he scored a tour of the White House and briefly met President George W. Bush.
But that was pre-9/11. And since that Washington now only exists in classic movies and the fading memories of nostalgic locals, Shore decided to circle back and see what’s doing these days.

His agenda is extra touristy. He’s visiting iconic monuments. Chatting up fellow out-of-towners. Oh yeah, and he’s picking the brains of political insiders.

As part of his research, Shore is sitting down with consumer rights advocate and perennial third-party presidential candidate Ralph Nader. He’s also going bow-tie shopping and grabbing lunch at Ben’s Chili Bowl with former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele.

His ultimate objective: “humanizing” modern pols. “They kind of come across as robots,” Shore suggested.

“My audience, most of them aren’t into politics. They just like to party and have a good time. I’ll simplify everything for them,” Shore assured HOH.

“Pauly-tics” will be taped June 30 at the 9:30 Club. Comics Godfrey, Rachel Feinstein and Vidur Kapur will join Shore for two performances (5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.), with the greatest hits from each set spliced into one, cohesive 60- to 90-minute show. Admission for each show is $20.
