The League of Conservation Voters will go up today on San Antonio airwaves with its campaign against former Rep. Ciro Rodriguez in Texas’ 23rd district Democratic primary.

The group’s new television ad does not name LCV’s endorsed candidate in the primary, state Rep. Pete Gallego. It does, however, mention another Texan — President George W. Bush. The intent is to tie Rodriguez’s environmental record with that of Bush’s.

“Say no to Bush, and say no to Ciro Rodriguez,” a female narrator says.

It will run May 22-28 as part of a $100,000 buy in the San Antonio media market. The group has previously dropped nearly $100,000 in direct mail in the race.

Gallego is much better funded at this point in the race, but Rodriguez is well-known in the district, thanks to his two previous Congressional stints.

The primary is May 29. The winner of that race will face Rep. Francisco “Quico” Canseco in the fall. The race is on the minds of nearly every serious House race observer, and Roll Call rates the Texas 23rd as a Tossup.
