The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee made three alterations to its communications staff for the 2012 cycle.

The committee now has five regional press secretaries to handle a playing field widened by redistricting on which the party is aiming to net 25 House seats. Stephen Carter, Stephanie Formas and Sabrina Singh either just joined or hold new positions on the communications team, which is led by Deputy Executive Director Jennifer Crider and National Press Secretary Jesse Ferguson.

Carter, a former communications strategist at Blue Engine Message & Media and deputy press secretary at the DCCC in 2010, is handling communications on races in the Plains, Rocky Mountain West and Northwest.

Formas, the new Southern regional press secretary, originally began at the DCCC last year as Southern regional researcher. Formas previously served in the office of former Rep. Chet Edwards (Texas).

Singh was promoted to deputy press secretary. She joined the DCCC in early 2011 as a press assistant after working in the office of Rep. Brad Sherman (Calif.).

The other regional press secretaries are Amber Moon (West), Josh Schwerin (Northeast) and Haley Morris (Midwest). Adam Hodge recently left the team to become a regional press secretary at the Democratic National Committee.

A former lead spokesman to one-time presidential candidate Jon Huntsman has joined the Republican National Committee as deputy communications director.

As the Hotline first reported, Tim Miller will serve alongside Communications Director Sean Spicer and Press Secretary Kirsten Kukowski in leading the committee’s 2012 messaging. Joe Pounder is also a deputy communications director and research director.

Miller previously served as a director at the Glover Park Group, as a communications strategist at Berman and Co., and as Sen. John McCain’s (Ariz.) Iowa communications director in 2008. Miller also served on two GOP House campaigns in Iowa.

Other recent RNC hires include new Regional Press Secretaries Darren Littell and Allie Brandenburger. Littell, a former spokesman to Rep. Joe Heck (Nev.), will cover the Southwest, and Brandenburger, most recently a spokeswoman for Rep. Jeff Denham (Calif.), will cover the Northeast. Matt Connelly, another former Huntsman spokesman, is covering the Southeast, and Ryan Mahoney, on staff since last June, is handling the Midwest.

As was previously announced, Josh Sharp is leading the RNC’s in-house media production, and Alexandra Franceschi handles Hispanic and specialty media. Amanda Isaacson, who served on Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s 2010 campaign and ran a Virginia state House campaign last year, is now the RNC’s director of surrogates.

Young Gun Run

Rep. Todd Young, a freshman Republican from Indiana’s 9th district, announced that he is sticking with the consulting team that helped him defeat a Democratic incumbent in 2010.

Young’s team consists of pollster Patrick Lanne of Public Opinion Strategies, direct-mail consultant Chris Faulkner of Gridiron Communications, media consultant Robert Aho of BrabenderCox and fundraiser Erin Casey French of EC Consulting.

“Every member of our team has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Indiana, and they have a proven track record of success,” Young said in a statement. “Their honest advice was invaluable last cycle, and I know that it will be helpful again in this year’s crucial election.  The continuity really helps us hit the ground running and puts us in a strong position headed into this campaign.”

Rein-Carney-ation

Phil Scollo, a Democratic businessman facing an uphill challenge against freshman Rep. Tom Marino (R-Pa.), recently announced his campaign team.

All three of the members of the new team once worked with former Rep. Christopher Carney (D), who represented the 10th district for two terms until Marino unseated him in 2010.

Vincent Rongione is managing the campaign, Andrew Eldredge-Martin is the media consultant, and Ben Franks is political director. Rongione managed Carney’s re-election in 2008, Eldredge-Martin managed Carney’s 2006 race, when he defeated then-Rep. Don Sherwood (R), and Franks served on Carney’s 2008 and 2010 campaigns, first as a field organizer and then as deputy political director.
