An internal poll commissioned by Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning’s Senate campaign showed him holding a strong lead over his Republican primary rivals.

Bruning garnered 52 percent, followed by state Treasurer Don Stenberg, who got 19 percent, and state Sen. Deb Fischer, who got 11 percent.

Stenberg and his campaign staff are betting on support from outside political groups to help pull him through the primary. He landed a big endorsement today from the anti-tax Club for Growth, which should boost his fundraising considerably.

“Don Stenberg is a lifelong champion of economic freedom and will be an ally for fiscal conservatives in Washington,” club President Chris Chocola said in a written statement. “Nebraska Republicans looking to send a pro-growth voice to the Senate should rally behind Don Stenberg.”

This race is an open seat because of Sen. Ben Nelson’s (D) retirement. Roll Call rates this race as Leans Republican.
