House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) will visit former Rep. Pete Hoekstra on the campaign trail in March to boost the Republican’s bid against Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.).

Hoekstra’s campaign confirmed Ryan will host a business roundtable and fundraising reception for the former Representative on March 5 in Southeast Michigan.

The announcement comes just a couple of days after a poll showed Hoekstra as the early frontrunner to win the GOP primary this August. Hoekstra led charter schools executive Clark Durant, 40 percent to 3 percent, in the EPIC-MRA poll from the Detroit Free Press.

Just more than half of survey respondents reported they were undecided. The survey of 600 likely voters was conducted Jan. 21-25 and had a margin of error of 4 points.

If Hoekstra wins the nod, he’ll face an uphill slog in the general election against Stabenow. Roll Call rates the race Leans Democratic.
