Atlanta Woman Says She Had Affair With Herman Cain
An Atlanta-area woman has accused presidential candidate Herman Cain of having a 13-year affair with her in an interview with Atlanta Fox affiliate WAGA.
Even before a clip of the interview with the woman aired, Cain went on CNN to address the allegation.
WAGA earlier this hour posted a video with a brief clip of a woman named Ginger White describing the affair. The channel promoted more of the interview to air later tonight.
“It was pretty simple,” White said. “It wasn’t complicated, and I was aware that he was married, and I was also aware that I was involved in a very inappropriate situation, relationship.”
Cain went on CNN’s “The Situation Room” to address the accusation before the clip was aired. White had yet to be named at that point, and he described her as “an acquaintance that I thought was a friend.”
Cain noted the lack of specificity in the early report and said that his attorney would respond when more details came to light.
“We will respond to every detail and every allegation, but I just want to give you a heads-up and your audience a heads-up; here we go again,” Cain said.
WAGA reporter Dale Russell reported that his interview with White took place “over Thanksgiving weekend,” and national reporters had been seeking her out for an interview.
In a statement to the media, Cain attorney Lin Wood did not deny the allegation, but he said the accusation was not of “harassment in the workplace” or of “assault.”
Wood added that the allegation was “of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults.” As a result, Wood said, the topic “is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public.”
