HOH’s One-Minute Recess: From Baby to BlackBerry in Five Hours

As you can imagine, HOH gets lots of Congressional baby announcements. But workhorse momma Heather Molino takes the cake for giving birth and pitching us the story all in the same day.

Molino, the deputy staff director for House Intelligence ranking member Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.), said Wednesday began like any other day, though she did feel a few contractions during her drive to work. She suspects she went into full-on labor during House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) ranking member meeting, but Molino soldiered through until the very end.

She bolted back to the committee offices but was quickly waylaid by a fire-alarm-related evacuation. Ruppersberger and another staffer swooped in and rushed her to George Washington University Hospital.

She checked in at 10:30 a.m. and welcomed her second son, Cooper Andrew Molino (7 pounds, 10 ounces) exactly two minutes later. The timestamp on her email announcement to us reads 3:55 p.m. (Most. Efficient. Public servant. Ever.)

Baby, mom and the rest of the Molino clan are all doing fine, she’s happy to report.

Correction: Nov. 17, 2011

An earlier version of this article misidentified Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s home state. She is from California.
