Capitol Lens: A Blind Eye for Rules

One of the no-nos of photography is shooting into the sun. But Roll Call photographers only have two rules: Never shoot what the wires are shooting and always take chances with assignments. Those two rules are responsible for some of our best work, and it’s why our images always look a little different from the rest of the pack. I made this image on Tuesday morning as protesters from OurDC gathered outside the Starbucks at Pennsylvania Avenue and Third Street Southeast. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor was at a fundraiser in an office above the coffee shop, and the protesters unsuccessfully demanded to speak with him about unemployment.
