Presidential hopefuls would love to snag former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s endorsement in Iowa, but three candidates are getting something else instead: his bass-playing skills.

Former Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.), former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Herman Cain, the former CEO of the Godfather’s Pizza restaurant chain, have boasted that Huckabee will perform at their tents Saturday at the Ames straw poll.

Huckabee stunned Republicans by placing second in the Ames straw poll four years ago and went on to win the Iowa caucuses a few months later. He declined earlier this year to run for the White House again, but his standing remains high among conservative activists in Iowa.

“If there is anyone who understands traditional family values and Iowa’s great political heritage, it is Governor Huckabee,” Santorum said in a Wednesday statement. “I know how much our supporters will enjoy visiting with him and dancing along to his well-known bass playing.”

Huckabee’s daughter, Pawlenty senior adviser Sarah Huckabee Sanders, tweeted about her father’s musical gig at their tent, too.

“My dad @govmikehuckabee will be playing with Sonicflood and the Nadas @timpawlenty’s tent at the Ames Straw Poll on Sat! Very excited!,” she tweeted.

Cain also announced Tuesday that Huckabee plans to jam with his supporters.

“I am humbled by his graciousness to share his musical gifts with me and I hope Iowa voters will enjoy the show,” Cain said in a statement.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), who has bolstered her staff with several aides and advisers who helped Huckabee win Iowa in 2008, has her own musical lineup for the straw poll, which includes Randy Travis.
