Thirteen of the 25 Senate co-sponsors of the Respect for Marriage Act came together to make a surprisingly touching “It Gets Better” video.

The “baker’s dozen gang” (well, it is the Senate, aka the gang capital of America) led by freshman Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) produced the video to reassure lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender kids that if they keep their heads up, the bullying will ease up and life will get better.

Coons — a longtime advocate for LGBT rights — believes “equality is a question of morality,” spokesman Ian Koski tells HOH.

Coons believes “who you love shouldn’t define the type of rights you have as an American,” Koski says. If raising his voice contributes to greater equality, he continues, so be it.

It doesn’t cost a thing to speak up, Koski says. New York Sens. Charles Schumer (D) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D) are prominently featured in the video — their home state is the latest to legalize same-sex unions.

The It Gets Better Project was founded 2010 following a series of suicides by LGBT youth after intense bullying.
