Longtime Democratic House leadership aide Mike Hacker will join consulting firm HDMK on July 1 as senior vice president.

“This is a significant addition to our team and to HDMK’s capabilities to serve current and future clients. We’re very pleased that Mike chose HDMK because someone with his skill set and experience could have gone just about anywhere,” HDMK founding partner Terry Holt said.

Hacker has worked the past four years for Assistant Minority Leader James Clyburn (D-S.C.), most recently as floor director and senior adviser. Before that he was director of government affairs at Quinn Gillespie & Associates.

The University of Michigan grad began his work in Congress for Michigan Democrats David Bonior, now a former Congressman, and Rep. John Dingell.

HDMK offers services including public affairs strategies, management of coalition efforts and message campaigns, crisis communications and media training.

Wilson Keeps Boosting Staff

Former Rep. Heather Wilson (R-N.M.) has hired Todd Harris as general consultant to her campaign for the state’s open Senate seat. Harris was a top adviser to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) in his campaign last year.

Wilson has also hired pollster Glen Bolger of Public Opinion Strategies, and Steve Meyers will be her fundraising direct mail consultant. Wilson previously announced Bryce Dustman will serve as campaign manager.

Deschamps Is Champ in Montana

Montana Republican Party Chairman Will Deschamps was re-elected easily Saturday to another two-year term.

Deschamps defeated Mark French, a tea-party-aligned candidate who challenged Rep. Denny Rehberg (R) in the primary last year. Rehberg is challenging Sen. Jon Tester (D) next year.

“This 2012 election may be one of the most important elections we’ve had in Montana in a long, long time,” Deschamps said, according to the Missoulian. “Not just the fact we have a triple crown of big elections (U.S. Senate, House and governor), but there’s an awful lot at stake.”

Poersch Parks at New Firm

Jennifer Yocham Poersch recently joined Wexler & Walker Public Policy Associates as senior vice president. She had been president of fundraising and strategic planning firm JYP Consulting.

Poersch has led Democratic fundraising efforts for Sens. Jack Reed (R.I.) and Tom Udall (N.M.) and former Sen. Blanche Lincoln (Ark.), as well as for Rep. Jay Inslee (Wash.) and Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton. Poersch was also a senior adviser to Sen. Patty Murray (Wash.) during her first stint as Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee chairwoman.

Poersch was chief fundraiser for former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson’s presidential campaign and deputy finance director for Sen. Joe Lieberman’s (I-Conn.) presidential campaign.

She is married to J.B. Poersch, the former DSCC executive director.

Angle Aide Signs On at SBA List

The Susan B. Anthony List, which works to elect female anti-abortion-rights politicians, has hired Ciara Matthews as communications director.

Matthews served last cycle as deputy communications director for 2010 Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle (R). She previously served as communications director at the Nevada Republican Party and worked in communications and development at Nevada Right to Life.

“I am thrilled Ciara is joining our team,” SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said. “Ciara brings to the Susan B. Anthony List’s communications team both political expertise from her time on the campaign trail with Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle and first-hand knowledge of the pro-life issue through her time at Nevada Right to Life. Her experience will be a valuable asset in SBA List’s communications efforts.”

Obama for America Hires Marshall

Obama for America hired Kouri Marshall as its Washington, D.C., campaign director. Marshall, a 2005 graduate of Eureka College, will be tasked with leading volunteer efforts in the nation’s capital.

President Barack Obama easily won Washington, D.C., but neighboring Virginia is expected to be a battleground state again, and volunteers could be dispatched across the Potomac River as they were in 2008.
