Heard on the Hill: Not Funky Enough?

Rep. Cedric Richmond may not have been the peppiest music fan this week, but he still gets props for making it out after votes.

The Louisiana Democrat was spotted at the Kennedy Center for the D.C. Jazz Fest’s “A Night in Treme” (truh-MAY) concert Monday. The event featured several of the performers from “Treme,” the HBO series by David Simon and the rest of the team who brought you “The Wire.”

After the first act, the Congressman gave some impromptu remarks plugging New Orleans as a tourist destination. By the second act, though, the man was beat.

“Even though everyone else — EVERYONE including some octogenarians — were up on their feet and dancing and hooting and clapping along and blowing the roof off the Kennedy Center, Richmond remained seated,” a tipster tells HOH.

At one point, our tipster says, Richmond was the only person with two good feet not up and dancing.

Come on, guys! Cut him some slack. He did sing along when the band started playing “I feel like funking it up, I feel like funking it up!” And we hear he gave a smile at the line, “I got my ticket in hand, got to go to New Orleans. They’re gonna show me that Zulu Queen.”

If it were another night, we bet the Congressman would have been funking it up for real.
