Call it the Tums candidacy.

Florida state Sen. Mike Bennett (R) dropped out of his race against Rep. Kathy Castor (D) on Monday, less than a month into his campaign, saying the fire in his belly burned a little too hot.

“In all honesty, I quickly realized that the ‘fire’ I was feeling was heartburn over constant fundraising, travel and the other demands of running for federal office,” Bennett, who is term-limited in the state Senate, told the Palm Beach Post. “Traveling the world and fishing are candidly things I’m looking forward to catching up on when my term in the Florida Senate comes to an end.”

Bennett filed his paperwork to run for the House in late May. Castor won her third term with 60 percent of the vote in 2010. Florida is unlikely to complete the decennial Congressional redistricting process until the middle of 2012.
