Scandal-ridden Rep. Anthony Weiner on Thursday said he has no plans to resign from Congress, despite mounting pressure from his Democratic colleagues to do so.

When asked by a New York Post reporter whether he would quit his Congressional career, the New York Democrat said simply, “I’m not.”

“I’m going to get back to work as best I can,” he added, according to the Post.

Weiner’s comments were the first public remarks he has made since he gave a disastrous press conference Monday acknowledging that for three years he had explicit sexual communications online with six women. The Congressman has been married since July 2010.

But while Weiner remains defiant, pressure was continuing to mount.

By Thursday afternoon, more than a half-dozen rank-and-file House Democrats had formally called on Weiner to resign, and Rep. Allyson Schwartz (Pa.) — a member of the party’s leadership — was continuing to lead the public effort to push him out.

Additionally, at least five Democratic lawmakers — Betty Sutton (Ohio), Joe Donnelly (Ind.), Dave Loebsack (Iowa), Tim Walz (Minn.) and Joe Courtney (Conn.) — donated $11,000 in campaign donations from Weiner to charities, according to the National Republican Congressional Committee.
