Heard on the Hill: What Norton Might Be Hearing

D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D) was spotted walking the Capitol complex Sunday. Her headphones were in and she was rocking it out.

HOH contacted her office for her weekend playlist, but, alas, it did not return our calls. So, your intrepid HOH staff came up with her probable D.C. playlist. Since Norton is famously proud of representing the District, this is a D.C.-centric list.

As a Washington politician, she loves two things: this city and go-go. So we start this playlist with the Junkyard Band’s “The Word” followed by Chuck Brown’s “Hoochie Coochie Man” played live at Union Station. The jams continue with a track from hometown favorite Marvin Gaye. Her favorite Gaye track? We bet it is “What’s Going On.”

The Congresswoman is known to get spitting mad and to show it. So, for her punk rock sensibility, HOH chooses “Waiting Room” by D.C.’s own punk rockers Fugazi.

We would then wind it down with Duke Ellington’s “Sophisticated Lady,” because, after all, she is.
