HOH’s One-Minute Recess: A Little Comic Relief

In a week of divisive battles over the budget, here’s a resolution that knows no party lines: Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger on Wednesday introduced legislation commending Saturday’s Free Comic Book Day.

On the first Saturday of May, comic-book publishers around the country provide free materials for sellers to give away, which sounds to HOH like a deal even the biggest fiscal hawk could love.

The Maryland Democrat’s resolution honors the holiday, noting that comic books help kids learn and love to read and that “the fastest growing section of public libraries is the comic book ‘graphic novel’ section.”

A spokeswoman tells HOH that the Congressman has been introducing similar bills for years, after a comic-book store owner in his district got him hip to the holiday.

Ruppersberger thinks it’s a great idea to support literacy and local businesses.

And after a week of budget wrangling, who couldn’t use a laugh?
