Adam Hasner hasn’t made his candidacy in Florida’s Senate contest official, but the grass-roots conservative favorite has already been targeted in an ethics complaint.

The Palm Beach Post reports that Democratic activist Diana Demarest is going after Hasner, a Republican former state House Majority Leader, for not filing a required personal financial disclosure form within 60 days of leaving office.

A Hasner representative tells the Florida paper that the form was filed as soon as he realized it was required. And in a sign that the GOP primary could turn ugly, the Hasner spokesman suggested that Republican Senate candidate and state Senate President Mike Haridopolos was behind the complaint.

Haridopolos himself has struggled through ethical charges in recent weeks surrounding his personal finances.

The Florida Democratic Party jumped on the news. “What’s with this field of Senate Republican candidates? It’s almost like they are going out of their way to lock down the ‘corruption’ vote in next year’s Republican primary,” said Eric Jotkoff, spokesman for the state Democratic Party.

Hasner is largely expected to run for the seat currently held by Sen. Bill Nelson, the last Democrat in Florida holding statewide office. Former Sen. George LeMieux (R) announced last week that he would also run.
