Nevada Republican Sharron Angle announced Wednesday that she is running for the open 2nd district. Her announcement came in a video posted to her campaign website, and she tweeted a link to her redesigned campaign website.

Angle, who lost a bid to unseat Sen. Harry Reid (D) in 2010, had also shown interest in another bid for Senate. But with Rep. Dean Heller vacating the seat to run for Senate, most political observers said a House bid would be her better option.

The former state Assemblywoman is the first to candidate to announce in what is expected to be a crowded GOP field. Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki and state GOP Chairman Mark Amodei are expected to run. State Sen. Greg Brower told Roll Call on Tuesday that he is considering a bid as well.

Operatives in the state said Tuesday that a multicandidate field could help Angle, who lost by 5 points to Reid last year. She emerged victorious from the GOP Senate primary with 40 percent of the vote in a 12-candidate field.

Angle has run in the 2nd district once before. She lost to Heller by just 421 votes in the 2006 GOP primary, which was the last time there was an open-seat race.

Angle released a Web ad Wednesday announcing her candidacy and calling the 2010 election “bittersweet.”
