Jane Corwin, the GOP nominee in western New York’s looming special election, will begin running television advertising Wednesday.

The announcement by the Corwin campaign comes more than two months before the general election and before Democrats have even settled on a candidate. Local Democratic county chairmen are in the midst of the interviewing process and could identify a nominee as early as next week.

The special election to fill the Congressional seat vacated by Rep. Chris Lee (R) is scheduled for May 24.

Corwin, a state Assemblywoman who is considered independently wealthy, will release a copy of her first television ad Tuesday evening to her Facebook followers. The campaign declined to release an advanced copy of the ad, which is likely to serve as an introduction to the voters of New York’s 26th.

The ad will run across the district, which includes parts of the Buffalo and Rochester markets, her campaign said.

Corwin is a former businesswoman and relative newcomer to the political arena. But in part because of her ability to self-fund, she was the unanimous choice of county Republican chairmen last month.

The race has already provided some drama. Two Republicans who failed to earn the GOP nomination are seeking third-party bids. One of them, the wealthy three-time Democratic Congressional candidate Jack Davis, is seeking the “Tea Party” line.
