Kelly’s Irish Times (14 F St. NW) is shaking things up a bit. The pub launched a new menu Thursday.

For the first time in seven years, managers swapped old dishes for new ones and narrowed food choices from 65 items to 40.

Gone is the cheddar potato skins appetizer. It’s been replaced by a plate of cheesy bacon tater tots for $7. In addition, the pub now offers a Frito pie, a bowl of crunchy Fritos served with chili, cheddar cheese and sour cream for $8. 

Also new is Kelly’s Old School Combo Platter, a $12 assorted plate of mini corn dogs, chicken nuggets, pretzels, and macaroni and cheese.

“It’s basically a play on everything you ate as a child,” manager Sean Ryan said.   

The new menu includes any mix of mini hot dogs, mini burgers, and mini fried fish and pork sandwiches at three for $7, six for $13 or nine for $17. 

Ryan’s favorite new addition is the Paddy’s Patty, one of several new burgers. It is marinated in Jameson whiskey and costs $10. 

Some of the old favorites are still available. The new menu includes the pub’s grilled reuben — corned beef slices on rye toast — and a roast beef sandwich served open-faced with mashed potatoes and gravy. The Irish stew, corned beef and cabbage, and fish and chips entrées are still available.

Happy hour also has a few tweaks. Washingtonians can wrap up their workdays with 16-ounce Pabst Blue Ribbon cans for $3.

Miller Lites are $2 every Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. and $3 from 6 to 8 p.m. All-you-can-drink Saturdays feature unlimited amounts of Blue Moon, Miller Lite and Miller High Life for $15 from 8 to 11 p.m.

The bar also has five new bourbons and six new Scotches.

Ryan said the pub hopes to draw a new late-night crowd with these specials and inspire more people to order food while they’re drinking. He and his colleagues have been working on the menu since December, he said, and they plan to “tackle happy hour next.”
