Heard on the Hill: Soup and Other Sustenance

White House Chief of Staff William Daley had a busy Thursday announcing a slew of staff changes, but that didn’t stop him from taking time to have dinner with his old pal, Sen. Mark Kirk.

The Illinois Republican was seen breaking bread with Daley at the downtown restaurant Sidecar, beneath P.J. Clarke’s.

“They have known each other a long time, and Sen. Kirk thought Daley was a great pick for White House chief of staff,” Kirk spokeswoman Kate Dickens says.

No word on what Kirk ate, though Daley reportedly had French onion soup and pan-roasted chicken.

While Kirk and Daley enjoyed a meal downtown, Rep. Jane Harman ate pizza Thursday on Capitol Hill.

The California Democrat rewarded her staffers for braving the day’s weather by taking them to lunch at Barracks Row restaurant Matchbox, a tipster tells us. Pizza sure beats the food in the House cafeterias, eh?

We hear the staffers ate salad and pizza, with Harman footing the bill at the end of the meal.
