Heard on the Hill: Library Gets in Shape

Now there’s no excuse to give up on that New Year’s resolution to lose weight.

Weight Watchers is coming to Capitol Hill — and not just for some ordinary weigh-in meeting, either. President and CEO David Kirchhoff is scheduled to headline an event at the Library of Congress on Jan. 19 titled “Weight Loss Through the Ages: Where We’ve Been, What We’ve Learned and Where We’re Going.”

The slim-down company proposed the event to the LOC as a way to study the costly obesity epidemic, a spokeswoman says.

“The Library agreed it would be a valuable event and will be featuring a huge collection of their books and resources on dieting and weight loss — spanning back about 150 years,” event spokeswoman Katie Kunec tells HOH.

Guess even our forefathers struggled with those pesky holiday pounds.

Kirchhoff will appear alongside experts from agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and there will be a lunch reception afterward. No word on the points value of the meal.
