Lofgren Taking Ethics Post — for Now
Updated: 5:38 p.m.
Rep. Zoe Lofgren (Calif.) will remain as the top Democrat on the Ethics Committee, but it may not be for long.
Lofgren, who met with Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) Thursday to discuss the position, isn’t expected to stay for the full two-year term, according to a Democratic lobbyist familiar with the situation.
“It’s not necessarily for the entire Congress,” the lobbyist told Roll Call. While Pelosi and Lofgren did not agree to a specific time arrangement, the lobbyist said that Lofgren was going to act in the capacity as a short-term placeholder until another ranking member can be selected.
A Democratic leadership aide confirmed that the Democratic Caucus ratified Lofgen’s temporary appointment to the Ethics Committee post on Friday. The aide said it was unclear how long the appointment would be.
Lofgren’s office did not return several calls for comment.
Lofgren, who originally took the unpopular job at Pelosi’s behest, was not expected to return as the top Democrat on the panel.
