Steve Israel Names His DCCC Team

Candidate recruitment by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is “off to a fast and aggressive start,” according to a statement released by the campaign arm of House Democrats this morning that formalizes the appointment of the leadership team of DCCC Chairman Steve Israel (N.Y.).

New York Rep. Joe Crowley, Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Pennsylvania Rep. Allyson Schwartz, Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison, and Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico Pedro Pierluisi will serve as DCCC national chairmen, titles previously dubbed vice chairmen. Crowley will lead the committee’s fundraising campaign, Wasserman Schultz will head incumbent retention and redistricting efforts, Schwartz will oversee candidate recruitment, Ellison will head the campaign committee’s community partnerships, and Pierluisi will oversee the committee’s community mobilization plans.

The announcement notes that Israel has already begun recruiting calls and meetings with potential candidates. The national chairmen will join the Recruiting Committee’s first meeting on Thursday.

The national chairmen “have the perfect combination of battle-tested experience, political know-how and leadership savvy to make this the shortest Republican majority in history,” Israel said.  “I’m thrilled they will be working with us this cycle to ensure our Members and candidates have the tools they need to win.”
