Heard on the Hill: Hoyer’s Hot Ticket

Move over Washington Capitals, there’s a hot new ticket in town. And no, we’re not talking about the Wizards.

Newly minted House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer got creative at a meeting with reporters Tuesday when he handed out 2011 season tickets to the weekly pen-and-pad press gathering.

The tickets, which are jokingly deemed nontransferable, feature a photo of the Maryland Democrat smiling above a red football helmet bearing the image of an elephant and a blue helmet decorated with a donkey. The bottom of the ticket reads “Face value: PRICELESS.”

OK, so maybe they aren’t the hottest tickets in town, but they’re certainly the nerdiest.

Apparently the passes are Hoyer’s lighthearted way of asking reporters to continue to come to his weekly meeting despite his new position in the minority.

“We thought it would be fun to reward those who came today with a season ticket that guarantees them a seat for the rest of the year,” a Hoyer aide tells HOH.

At press time, none of the tickets were being scalped on Craigslist.
