Heard on the Hill: A Family Affair

Rep. Patrick Kennedy wants everyone to know that his family is really, really awesome. With his time in Congress winding down, the retiring Rhode Island Democrat took more than a few moments Thursday to honor not one, not two, but seven members of his famous family on the House floor.

The Congressman gushed about everyone from Robert F. Kennedy’s widow, Ethel, to California first lady Maria Shriver. He even mentioned below-the-radar cousins, such as documentary filmmaker Rory Kennedy, taking the time to discuss each of their careers and philanthropies. He even tipped his hat to longtime family friend and RFK campaign staffer Paul Schrade.

No word on why Rep. Kennedy decided to get all sentimental and have a love fest on the floor; his office did not return a request for comment by press time. Guess he’s gotta do it while he can.
