HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Vertical Integration

While the snoozefest season finale of “The Real Housewives of D.C.” kept many tee-vee viewers glued to their sets on Thursday night, the reality television letdown wasn’t the only show on the air that featured Washington front and center.

Emmy-winning comedy “30 Rock” spoofed Congress, as NBC exec Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) testified before the “House Subcommittee on Baseball, Quiz Shows, Terrorism and Media” about the impending merger between NBC Universal and KableTown. (Sound familar?)

Although Donaghy at first appears confident he can win Members of Congress over — “Do you know who gets elected to Congress these days? Former athletes, washed-up actors and women,” he tells colleague Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) — once in D.C., he faces the wrath of Rep. Regina Bookman, a tough-talking Congresswoman from Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional district. She’s played by Queen Latifah, who quizzes Donaghy on his corporation’s diversity efforts.

And predictably, Donaghy’s efforts to prove his company supports diversity, um…

don’t go so well.

Overheard on the Hill

“Grandson Evan just born! 8lbs 8oz, 20 1/2 inches. Oh and did I mention?…he’s perfect!!! Love Love. We are so blessed.”

— Sen. Claire McCaskill, announcing her family’s new arrival via Twitter on Thursday afternoon. The Missouri Democrat also posted a photo of herself holding the new baby.
