Carter Recovers From Stomach Ailment, Leaves Hospital

President Jimmy Carter was discharged from a Cleveland hospital Thursday afternoon and would resume traveling, according to a statement by the Carter Center.

Carter had recovered from a gastric viral infection, the center said. He is scheduled to travel to Washington this week for a meeting related to Carter Center work. The 39th president and his wife founded the nonprofit in 1982 in partnership with Emory University to advance peace and health worldwide.

Carter was flying to Ohio to promote his new book, “White House Diary,” when he fell ill on Tuesday. He turns 86 on Friday.
