House Rejects Resolution Barring Lame-Duck Session

House Democrats on Thursday again beat back a GOP resolution barring the House from reconvening for a lame-duck session, except in the case of an “unforeseen sudden emergency.”

The privileged resolution was offered by Republican Study Committee Chairman Tom Price (Ga.). The motion was tabled, 236-172.

It cited “signs in recent weeks party leaders are planning an ambitious lame-duck session for bills they don’t want to defend before November, when they would be able to vote for sweeping legislation without fear of voter retaliation.”

Price offered a similar resolution in August that also went down.
