DSCC Outraises NRSC in August, but Narrowly Trails in Cash

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee won the monthly fundraising battle in August by bringing in about $1.4 million more than its GOP counterpart, according to reports set to be filed Monday with the Federal Election Commission.

The DSCC brought a little more than $7.4 million last month with the help of a few large donations from party leaders, including $1 million from former DSCC Chairman Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) early in the month. The National Republican Senatorial Committee raised a little more than $6 million.

“The committee and Democratic Senate candidates are in strong positions to wage competitive races in our targeted races,” DSCC spokeswoman Deirdre Murphy said Monday. The committee has seen party activism grow as Republicans nominate “extremists who care more about imposing a strict ideology than the middle class,” she said.

But the National Republican Senatorial Committee can take some comfort; it has more cash on hand heading into the final two months of the campaign.

After shelling out $7 million in August, which included large ad buys in Pennsylvania and Missouri, the DSCC had about $22.9 million on hand as of Sept. 1. The NRSC was less active in August. It spent $2.6 million and had $24.5 million in the bank to start August.

“With the election a little over six weeks away, the NRSC is well-prepared to go on offense in battleground states around the country as we work to hold the Democrats accountable for their reckless spending agenda and fight to restore checks-and-balances in Washington,” NRSC executive director Rob Jesmer said in a statement Monday.
