President Barack Obama announced Wednesday that he will nominate Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) to represent the United States at this month’s General Assembly of the United Nations.

Shaheen, the former three-term governor of New Hampshire, serves on the Foreign Relations Committee and chairs the Subcommittee on European Affairs. Wicker, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, is also a member of the Foreign Relations Committee.

The nominations are subject to Senate confirmation.
