Texas Democrat Repays Foundation for Scholarships

Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson has repaid about $31,000 to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.

The Dallas Morning News reported Sunday that the Texas Democrat violated the foundation’s anti-nepotism and residency rules for its college scholarship program by awarding thousands of dollars to relatives and the children of a top aide.

Johnson told the newspaper she unknowingly violated the rules and said in a statement Wednesday that she repaid the money in full.
