HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Not Above the Law

Updated: 3:18 p.m.

Rep. Dan Lungren was driving in Virginia on Friday morning while conducting a radio interview on his cell phone when he was interrupted by sirens. While talking on a cell phone while driving is frowned upon in Old Dominion, it wasn’t the only driving faux pas the California Republican was committing — he was also speeding.

HOH hears that in the middle of the interview, Lungren said, “There’s a policeman coming,” and quickly got off the phone. He was then pulled over for speeding.

“He complied with the officer’s request and gave his California driver’s license and registration for the car, and the officer gave him a warning,” Lungren spokesman Brian Kaveney said.

The incident didn’t seem to faze Lungren, who called the radio station back, explained what happened and continued the interview.

The Real Jersey Shore

President Barack Obama may not know who Snooki is, but everyone in New Jersey government seems to. Less than a week after Gov. Chris Christie (R) dissed the MTV reality show “Jersey Shore” as just a bunch of New Yorkers pretending to be from Jersey, a state assemblyman is holding a video contest to prove that not everyone who hits the beach in the Garden State is a muscled binge drinker with a Staten Island accent.

Assemblyman Jon Bramnick (R), who represents a district in northern New Jersey, is asking Garden State residents to submit 30-second video clips of what life at the beach is really like.

“This is the situation. MTV thinks it captured the Jersey Shore. We know better. Let’s show them what it’s really like down the shore on our sandy beaches and fantastic boardwalks,” Bramnick said. No word yet on whether the real Jersey Shore involves Ron Ron Juice.

While New Jersey politicians may not be fond of the “Jersey Shore” gang, Snooki has at least one elected official in her corner: Sen. John McCain. The Arizona Republican shares the orange starlet’s views on opposing an Obama-supported tanning tax. “I would never tax your tanning bed! Pres Obama’s tax/spend policy is quite The Situation. but I do rec wearing sunscreen!” McCain tweeted earlier this summer.
