Organizing for America, the grass-roots arm of the Democratic National Committee, unveiled a new website Wednesday aimed at building support for Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan in the lead-up to her confirmation hearings in late June.

The Kagan for Justice Action Center offers background information, video clips and interactive tools to help users send letters to local newspapers or call into local radio shows in support of Kagan. The website, my.barackobama.com/KaganAction, also asks for donations to help fend off Kagan’s critics.

“The coming weeks will be crucial to introducing her to the American people and keeping this debate on the merits of her nomination. We’ve already seen opponents start to ramp up their attacks — even attacking her for her affiliation with former Justice Thurgood Marshall. And it’s only going to get worse,” the website reads.

The OFA’s new push for Kagan comes as some of her former colleagues came out of the woodwork on Wednesday to trump up her qualifications and character, based on their experience working with her under former President Bill Clinton. Kagan served as a domestic policy adviser and associate White House counsel to Clinton.

“We think she’s an excellent choice in the court,” former White House Chief of Staff John Podesta said. “I’ve known her a very long time,” and she is a “wicked smart, first-rate legal intellect.”

Neera Tanden, a former policy adviser to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton when she was first lady, said Kagan is someone who was “animated by how policy actually affected real people.”

Asked if Kagan has centrist instincts or if her opinions under Clinton were written on behalf of him, Podesta said everyone in the White House knows they are helping to advance the president’s agenda.

“We had our marching orders. Elena operated very much in that framework,” he said.
