It’s Official: Stephene Moore Enters Race for Husband’s Seat

A couple weeks after the Kansas City Star reported she was getting into the race, Stephene Moore pulled the trigger Tuesday and announced her bid for the House seat currently occupied by her husband, retiring Rep. Dennis Moore (D-Kan.).

“In Congress I will take the best of what Dennis has done and carry it forward while using my unique background to direct my work on creating jobs, ensuring access to health care, and preparing students to compete in the global economy,” Stephene Moore said a statement.

Stephene Moore is the only competitive Democrat in the race, which works to her party’s advantage given that Republicans are headed toward a contentious primary in August featuring top GOP candidates state Rep. Kevin Yoder and 2008 GOP nominee Nick Jordan. However, it’s still going to be an uphill climb for Democrats, given the national mood and the fact that the district voted for President Barack Obama with a slim 51 percent of the vote in 2008.
