Wisconsin: Democrats Try to Put Pressure on Thompson

Democrats are letting former Gov. Tommy Thompson (R) know what he can expect if he decides to challenge Sen. Russ Feingold (D).

In the latest of a stream of attacks against Thompson, who is weighing whether to run for the seat that Feingold has held for three terms, the Wisconsin Democratic Party released a Web video that calls attention to Thompson’s membership on numerous corporate boards and his association with the law and lobbying giant Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.

The attacks began two weeks ago, after a former Thompson campaign manager said Thompson could soon form a Senate exploratory committee.

Some Republicans are skeptical about Thompson’s interest in such a race, even though polls show that he would be very competitive.

The Republican primary already includes real estate developer Terrence Wall, who is well-funded, and businessman Dave Westlake.
