HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Television Magic

What happens when a freshman female Member of Congress — who’s successful in everything but love — moves in with two of her male colleagues? Comedy, that’s what!

[IMGCAP(1)]ABC announced Wednesday that “Scrubs” actress Sarah Chalke has been cast in a new television pilot, “Freshmen,” as a former high-power businesswoman just elected to Congress. She’s super-duper successful, but when it comes to men, she “is a disaster waiting to happen,” Reuters reports.

After arriving in D.C., Chalke’s character moves in with two male freshman Members. Could love soon be on the horizon?

Of course, even television magic can’t match the real deal.

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) has shared a Capitol Hill rowhouse with several Congressional colleagues over the years, including Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Rep. Bill Delahunt (D-Mass.). And just like a sitcom, hilarity has ensued: The roomies have dealt with everything from a pesky rodent problem to paying the bills to deciding who’s in charge of cooking dinner.

Unlike ABC’s show, HOH guesses Schumer and his roomies probably don’t spend much time dishing on their love life: The New York Times once noted that on weeknights, “they shoot the breeze in their underwear in the Capitol Hill town house where two of them sleep in unkempt beds in the living room like so many superannuated frat boys.”
