Hastert Upset in 14th District Primary

State Sen. Randy Hultgren defeated attorney Ethan Hastert in the GOP primary in Illinois’ 14th district on Tuesday, and he will face Rep. Bill Foster (D) in November.

Hultgren’s victory over the son of former Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) was likely the biggest Congressional upset of the night.

The state Senator scored a decisive victory of 55 percent to 45 percent, with 98 percent of precincts reporting. Hastert called Hultgren to concede the race.

Hastert was favored early to win the race and he had a wide fundraising advantage in the race. Republicans are expected to target Foster for defeat in November.
