Kirk Hauls In $1.86 million in 4th Quarter for Senate Bid

Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) is living up to his reputation as a fantastic fundraiser, bringing in $1.86 million in the last three months of 2009. According to his campaign, Kirk has almost $3.2 million in the bank heading into the Feb. 2 primary.

With the primary only a few weeks away, Illinois candidates are required to file their pre-primary finance reports. Other candidates in the race have not publicly released their fundraising tallies yet.

At the end of September, state Treasurer and likely Democratic nominee Alexi Giannoulias (D) reported having $2.4million in the bank. Kirk’s chief primary competitive, real estate developer Patrick Hughes (R), reported having $340,000 cash on hand at the end of September.

CQ Politics currently rates this general election contest as a Tossup.
